Do you smoke?

If you do your chances of contracting Emphysema are extremely high. However there is help brewing on the horizon!

I’ve had two uncles die of the disease and it was painful to watch. Both of them were heavy smokers at one time.

It has been proven many times that if a smoker could actually quit before the dreaded disease takes hold the lungs would begin to heal themselves.

Doctors say stem cells are created in the bone marrow and then sent to the injured lung(s).

The problem with smoking is that it is ridiculously hard to quit.

My wife is a very heavy smoker and I am determined to help her quit (if she doesn’t kill me first).
Like with most smokers she does not want any disease but she doesn’t like to be reminded how heavy she’s smoking.
It’s a very touchy situation especially since the patch was useless on her; she claimed that it kept coming off (sigh, whatever).

I believe the real problem for my wife and some others like her is that they need to go through the motions of smoking. It’s a strange but therapeutic ritual like Linus and his security blanket from the Peanuts cartoon.

In Europe an inventor created something called the E-Cigarette or Electronic Cigarette. It is credited for addressing the physiological needs of the smoker.

It looks like a cigarette and smokes like a cigarette but unlike the 4000 cancer and emphysema causing carcinogens; the smoke look-a-like is actually a harmless vapor! And get this, there is no flame!

It has swept Europe and is being duplicated by other manufactures as the demand for them is skyrocketing. Mind you the E-Cigarette contains up to 16mg. of nicotine surprisingly, doctors say nicotine is not an actual health hazard by itself however it is highly addictive.

There is some growing concern that E-cigarettes may become “chic” when famous actors, entertainers and singers begin to switch to these high tech smokes.

The concern is that teenagers may emulate these celebrities and seek out the e-cigarette simply to be hip. Again if a person is a non-smoker he or she should not even think about trying the e-cigarette.

Also this is not being offered as a smoking cessation product. But let me quickly add that some e-cigarettes are available with a choice of nicotine content even with 0mgs.

So even though it is not being pitched as such the e-cigarette can be used creatively as a smoking cessation product.

Even some doctors are beginning to recommend the e-cigarette to their patients who have had no success with other methods.

There is also one other important reason to switch. E-cigarettes save a heavy smoker over $1,000 dollars a year!

Heck, my wife is already addicted to nicotine so I ordered it for her. Perhaps this may turn out to be one of the 21st century marvels that save many lives. Maybe even your life or the life of a love one.
